“Tomatoes: from gene to fork” Genes that make tomatoes have been discovered in the last few years and having a high quality reference genome was a first step in this discovery path. Collaborative efforts in producing a reference was followed by genotyping and phenotyping of large collections of materials that lead to the identification of QTLs and eventually causative genes. I will summarize some of our contributions in the case of tomato fruit quality traits and provide an update on the current status of the so called new genomic technologies in the EU and how we are using genome editing for some of our goals.
